Michael is married to

Nell and they have

three young children.

At the initial visit we will first get you to fill out a medical history form. We will then have an initial chat in order to find out your main areas of concern with your present smile. We will then sit you back and note the alignment of your teeth and jaws before discussing possible treatment options, length of treatment and costs with you. We often need to take X-rays, photos of your teeth and moulds in order to finalise the treatment plan. We will discuss treatment options, limitations and possible problems with you before we get your written consent for treatment. We will then organise to start treatment when both you and your teeth are ready to begin.

FAQs

Benefits of Orthodontics

Straight teeth are easier to clean, function better and more likely to last a lifetime. Dr. Ormond and his staff are devoted to building beautiful smiles by improving the alignment of the teeth, lips and jaws. We can improve most tooth and jaw alignment problems at any age. For most people, a beautiful smile is the most obvious benefit of orthodontics. Most patients feel more self-confident as a result of their new smile.

Types of Braces

Orthodontic appliances include standard metal brackets and aesthetic braces.

The most common Aesthetic brace is a tooth coloured bracket attached to the front of the tooth. This can be used to carry out short treatments of 4-8 month duration, ie a pretty smile in 6 months! Not everyone can achieve these results in this time frame, however we would let you know at the initial consult.

Orthodontic Care

You should continue to see your family dentist for routine dental care throughout your orthodontic treatment.

You will be shown the proper care of your braces when your orthodontic treatment begins.

Click here for our instructional video on how to brush with braces.

Note: If your gums bleed when brushing, do not avoid brushing, but rather continue stimulating the area with the bristles. Be sure to angle your toothbrush so that the area under your gum line is cleaned. After 3 or 4 days of proper brushing, the bleeding should stop and your gums should be healthy again.

FLOSSING: Use a special floss threader to floss with your braces on. Be sure to floss at least once per day.

FLUORIDE RINSE OR GEL: May be recommended for preventive measures.
